In the top of the first, Whitney Buckmon doubled to left center with one out, and moved to third on a passed ball. Yuruby Alicart brought her in with an RBI groundout before the Seminoles strung together three straight hits. Veronica Wootson singled to left to start the rally, and Melissa Wood followed with a single to left center. Brittany Osmon then drilled a home run off the Williams Field sign in right center to stake Florida State to the early 4-0 lead.
The fourth-seeded Yellow Jackets (46-20) responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Amy Hosier doubled to the gap in right center to get things going with one out, and came in on Caitlin Lever's single to left. After a Daisy Paez walk, Aileen Morales singled up the middle to score Lever.
Florida State (41-26) got a run back in the top of the third, when Wood reached on an infield single, knocking in Alicart from third. The Seminoles added another run in the top of the fifth, when Alicart scored on a wild pitch.
Savannah Brown extended Georgia Tech's ACC Championship record for home runs to 10 with her solo shot to straightaway center in the bottom half of the inning to get the Jackets back within three at 6-3.
The fifth-seeded Seminoles added another run in the top of the seventh, as Buckmon scored on a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Wootson. Florida State missed a chance to put the game of reach, leaving the bases loaded.
Georgia Tech managed a run in the bottom of the seventh, but
that was it. A Lever single and a Stephanie Butler walk put runners on
first and second with no one out, and a fielder's choice put runners at
the corners with one out. Brown then brought in Lever with an RBI
groundout, but that was all the Jackets would get as they were
eliminated from the tournament.
