COLLINS, Charles Mr. Charles William Collins, age 93, of Adairsville, GA, died, Friday, October 10, 2008, at a local hospital.
Mr. Collins was born March 6, 1915, in Sandersville, GA, son of the late Mark Collins and Essie Thigpen Collins. Mr. Collins and his wife, Virginia lived in Decatur, GA since 1949 in the same house and moved to Rome in 2005 to be close to his daughter.
He was a route salesman with Charles Chips for over twenty years of service. Mr. Collins was a former member of Oakhurst Baptist Church in Decatur, GA and later Decatur Heights Baptist Church.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for two and half years. Mr. Collins was an avid gardener and grew organic vegetables. He was very generous with his produce. Mr. Collins loved life and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Virginia Tipton Collins of Adairsville, GA; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Erin Odom Collins of Suches, GA; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jennifer Collins Kearns and Dr. Patrick David Kearns of Adairsville, GA, and Judy Ann Collins of Decatur, GA; and a grandson, Patrick Wren Kearns of Adairsville, GA.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 13, 2008, at noon in the Union Baptist Church in Robertstown, GA. Interment will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Collins will remain in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
