Decatur Mom helped a box turtle over a wall, whether is wanted help or not.
This blogger had at least a half dozen box turtles over on Pinehurst St. as a kid. We'd tape numbers on their shells, put them in the middle of a circle. The first one to cross the outer circle (with verbal and hand signal encouragement) won the race. I kept them in a large wire pen with several feet of dirt (which they liked to dig down into) in the bottom and fed them lettuce and such. They seemed contented. After a few years, I took them over into the woods near a creek and bid them farewell and godspeed.
Now, I always stop when I see one trying to cross a road, and place it on the other side before it gets crushed by a passing vehicle.
