Today is the day to thank all who served our country in any capacity in the services, in times of war or peace, and remember those who served and are no longer here. So, if you know a vet, take a moment to thank him or her in person, via e-mail, or on the phone. And visit the Decatur Cemetery to see all the fllags put out by the Boy Scouts and others.
We stay free thanks to the service and risks these people have, are, and will take on our behalf.
Historian Gordon S. Wood, speaking at the Decatur Library Monday (I've having trouble uploading the 13-minute video I produced) said it was wonderful to see people in the South show appreciation to our troops in the airports. He said he had not seen that in the North, Midwest, and Northwest.
You can thank a vet any day. I really appreciate it when someone, upon learning I was an airborne combat engineer in the 307th Engineer Bn attached to the 82nd Airborne Div, takes a moment to say, "Thank you for your service, Sir." It also reminds me of those I've known who didn't live to hear those words.
