Joseph named Georgia Women's College CotY

After leading the women's basketball team to its best finish in school history, Georgia Tech head coach MaChelle Joseph was named the 2007 Whack Hyder State of Georgia Women's College Basketball Coach of the Year announced The Atlanta Tipoff Club Tuesday.

Joseph will also be honored by the United States Postal Service with the Sports Award at the inaugural "Women Putting their Stamp on Atlanta Luncheon" on Thursday, March 29.

Lady Jackets lost to Maryland

Crystal Langhorne scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the sixth-ranked and third-seeded Terps defeated sixth-seeded Georgia Tech, 75-59, in Friday evening's quarterfinal game.

Maryland (27-4) avenged a regular-season loss to the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta and drew a spot opposite fourth-ranked and second-seeded North Carolina in Saturday's 4:30 p.m. semifinal.

Lady Jackets rout Longwood

Stephanie Higgs and Chioma Nnamaka each scored 17 points in Georgia Tech's 75-46 rout of Longwood on Sunday. Higgs also had nine assists and eight rebounds.

It was Tech's fifth victory in a row heading into the Atlantic Coast Conference women's tournament in Greensboro, N.C., beginning on Thursday [where 6th seed GT faces Miami (11-18/2-12) at 8PM Thursday].

Women beat UVA 73-49

Stephanie Higgs scored 25 points and led a 22-6 run to start the second half to help Georgia Tech beat Virginia 73-49 on Thursday night.

Tech (18-10 overall, 9-5 Atlantic Coast Conference), which won its fourth straight, led 32-28 at halftime. Janie Mitchell opened the second-half scoring for Tech with a layup after a steal by Higgs, who followed with a jumper. Higgs' 3-pointer with 12:53 to play made the score 54-34.

Women's basketball beats Clemson

ATLANTA - Chioma Nnamaka scored 14 points, including two crucial free throws in the closing seconds, and Georgia Tech beat Clemson 62-59 on Monday night.

The Jackets are 8-5 in the ACC (17-10 overall) and are assured of their first winning season ever in ACC play.

Women's basketball beats Miami

Janie Mitchell had 22 points and seven rebounds to lead Georgia Tech to a 66-45 win over the University of Miami on Thursday night at BankUnited Center.

The Hurricanes trailed by as many as 20 points in the second half after cutting their halftime deficit to five points early in the second half.

Lady Jackets buzz past Pack

Stephanie Higgs scored 25 points and Georgia Tech held off a furious N.C. State comeback in the second half for a 69-62 women's basketball victory Sunday at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

The Yellow Jackets (15-10, 6-5 ACC) snapped the Wolfpack's five-game winning streak. N.C. State dropped to 18-8, 7-4 in the ACC.

Women lose to FSU, 63-52

The Florida State women's basketball team picked up an important victory, improving to 18-6 overall and 7-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 63-52 victory against visiting Georgia Tech (14-10, 5-5) on Friday night at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee.

FSU outrebounded Tech 40-32 but also had a season-high 30 turnovers.

The Jackets return to the court in less than 48 hours when they host NC State Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
