The Eagles will make a return trip to Atlanta to conclude the annual four-game series March 27-28.

The Yellow Jackets return five starters in the field and welcome back 11 of their 14 pitchers from the 2006 roster that advanced to the College World Series for the third time in the program's history.

Danny Payne back on the field

Danny Payne proved last season he could be a great leadoff man. Now, he plans to show he can finish things, too.

Georgia Tech's speedy center fielder is set to become a part-time closer, joining catcher Matt Wieters in the dual roles of position player and pitcher.

Baseball preview

GEORGIA TECH - The Jackets head into the 2007 season after a successful 2006 campaign that ended with a trip to Omaha. Coach Hall's squad put together another 50 win season. The Jackets finished the year ranked 5th in the nation. Coach Hall and his staff will be looking to find replacements for the loss of five position starters and their top three pitchers. This group of players helped Tech win the 2003 ACC tournament, the 2004 regular season title, the 2005 regular season and tournament championship and led them to the 2006 College World Series. The Jackets open the season with a two game series in Statesboro on the 10th and 11th of February.

Beesball is just around the corner

The football team fell short down the stretch (losing to UGhA, WF in the ACC CG, and it's bowl game).

The basketball team will probably miss March Madness despite having two of the top recruits in the country. (We can hope for a white hot finish, but there's no basis to realistically expect it.) Traditonally, a disappointed GT team rarely wins more than a game or two in the NIT.

GT fans can take hope in the Beesball team, which shows great promise. Last year's team also faded at the CWS, losing two games in which it had a lead.  But, last year, we could say "There's always next year" and next year is now about 11 days away. The fist game is in Savannah on 2/10.

In minor sports, the Women's Tennis team, ranked 7th preseason, plays Thursday morning.

GT fans stay GT fans, through thick and thin.

Baseballers to shave heads for charity

Georgia Tech's baseball team has joined forces with the St. Baldrick's Foundation to raise money to find the cure for childhood cancer. The Yellow Jackets have agreed to shave their heads as a part of the St. Baldrick's event, setting the lofty goal of raising at least $5000 by March 17, 2007, and are asking for the fans' assistance in helping them raise the funds.

For every $250 donated by Georgia Tech fans over the next two months, one player on the team will have their head shaved following the Yellow Jackets' game against Boston College on St. Patrick's Day. Donations can be made by going to the St. Baldrick's website and clicking "find an event," searching for the Georgia Tech Baseball Private Event in Atlanta, Ga., or by clicking here.
