* Welcome to Wreck Ramblin, now on pseudo hiatus

WRECK RAMBLIN IS GEARING WAY DOWN FOR A WHILE

This is as good a time as any for Wreck Ramblin to go on  pseudo hiatus, at least until the Gator Bowl.  Posts will be made only as there is significant news to report for GT football, men's basketball, and baseball.  Articles written just to fill newspaper space, with no real information, will not be linked.

DO NOT interpret this as a jumping off of the bandwagon. Goldtimer is married to GT, for better or worse, til death do us part.

Fortunately, the busy GT fan can still get all the GT sports news needed with just a few clicks (using the links WR uses):

Sorry, no new posts for Friday AM

... but you'll find PLENTY of articles about GT football at the links in the fixed post above.  You just have to do two more clicks and maybe do a little scanning with your eyes.

There may be more posts here this evening or in the AM, but I can't even promise that.

* Welcome to Wreck Ramblin

Wreck Ramblin is for busy Tech fans who don't have the time to wade through message boards and search engines looking for useful GT sports news. Unless you're obsessed with sports, it's all you need to know.

If it's not updated today for some reason (like the real world taking priority), go to this GT Sports Blog Aggregator to see what other GT sports bloggers have posted.

To find posts on a particular subject, from the over 3600 posts in Wreck Ramblin and from other GT sports blogs, enter a descriptive word or two in the Rollyo search block in the right column.

Use a RSS reader?

This blog is for busy, efficient, successful people who don't have time to link to multiple web sites and wade through all the stuff on multiple message boards to get news (and the latest buzz) about major GT sports. (Visit WreckRamblin.com also if you're interested in all 17 GT sports.)

I waste time so you don't have to.

If you want to be even more efficient, use a a reader (if you don't already). If you visit here regularly, you're probably the kind of person who already uses one.

The link for Wreck Ramblin (which you can get anytime by floating your cursor over the uppermost link in the right sidebar -- or rightclicking on the second link and then clicking on properties) is:

http://airbornecombatengineer.typepad.com/wreck_ramblin/index.rdf

Why the name? I piggybacked this blog onto another one I already had to save a few $, as I get little help from the tip jar in the sidebar.

Just enter that in the form your reader provides for new feeds, and you'll see 40-word summaries of WreckRamblin posts (along with summaries from any other links you've entered), which you have the option to click on for the full article.

If you don't already use a reader, and would like to, I recommend Feed Demon.

Happy New Year!

This is Wreck Ramblin's first New Year's Eve, as it is less than five months old. Yet, it already has 1178 posts, and has been visited 37,724 times. It's growth in readership should continue to accelerate in '06, as more discover it's the most efficient way to obtain news and commentary on the major Georgia Tech sports, for those who don't have time to wade through message boards. Thanks for visiting, and here's hoping you'll return daily in '06.

Milestone: Wreck Ramblin rolls past 36K hits

As of this post, Wreck Ramblin (just months old) has 983 posts and has been hit 36K times.

This is tiny, when compared to established sports blogs, but it's a strong start. It takes a while to get the snowball rolling. (My other blog -- mostly about the military and self defense -- has logged 586K hits in less than two years, following a similar slow start.)

In addition to providing up-to-date information about the primary GT sports, Wreck Ramblin will serve as a log which can be searched using search engines such as Google, long after the fishwrap links are broken.

Those busy people who don't have time to weed through sports message boards will find virtually all the useful information they would find there in a concise, condensed form (free of smack, childish attacks, and extraneous junk) here.

This a a non-profit effort, for the good of GT sports fans everywhere. You're support (by visiting, commenting, linking, or contributing) is most appreciated.

A number of GT sports blogs are springing up, and we all link to each other to form an informal GT sports network of bloggers. You can follow the links in the left sidebar to read them all (or simply bookmark them, so you can go to them directly next time.

The reason this blog is worth the effort

Got this note from a "Hiver" this morning

Goldtimer,

You may have already read this from my post, but I am a 2003 grad and a lieutenant in the 101st Airborne currently in iraq and about to come home in a month or so. Without sounding stalkerish, I just wanted to introduce myself and say thank you for the WreckRamblin website. Over here in Iraq when there is stuff to do, there is a lot of stuff to do, but when there is down time, there is really nothing to do. Your website has really kept me sane and given me a sense of connection back to GT. Thanks, keep up the good work, and I'll keep reading.

yellowblazer

This makes all the time and effort seem worthwhile. As one old paratrooper (82nd) to a young one, thanks for serving your country, Sir! I'm glad I can help you in even this very minor way.

HOME SAFE!

I need to crank my airborne-combat-engineer.com military/defense blog (which was hit over a half million times before I put it on hiatus) back up. (wreckramblin.com is actually a "daughter" blog to that, to save $)

WR staff doubles after 1st day!

It's a pleasure to introduce WR's new staff member, GoldSox, who has volunteered to monitor and report on GT sports news (or news impacting GT) in the national sports news services -- or any other subject (related to GT sports) he's so moved to write about.

GoldSox has been a GT fan for as long as he can remember in his [young] 29-year-old life. He grew up in Winder. His dad and granddad attended Tech. He would have followed suit had he not obtained a scholarship to play DII football at Carson Newman, where he played on two MNC teams. He is an attorney. His three season tickets are on Row 6 in Section 107. He and his wife now live near Vinings. Their first child was born in February. His favorite is Maker's Mark.

When you see a post on Wreck Ramblin, check for the name of the author in the fine print at the bottom of the post (Goldtimer will show as "ACE" as I'm saving $ by piggybacking this on a blog I already pay for -- at least for now).

If anyone else would like to volunteer to cover one or more specific sports and/or sources, e-mail goldtimer@mail.com.

Hint: If you're only interested in football, click on the football category in the right sidebar. Same for basketball and baseball.
