Parlaying a camera shot into a layout spread

All it took was a few seconds on national television. While ABC was coming back from a commercial break, the camera captured my friends and I doing the Tomahawk Chop while Brent Musberger mused that "15,000 red-blooded American men just signed up to go to Florida State next year." Little did we know what those 15 seconds of national exposure would mean.

Ramsey somehow obtained an exclusive interview for his Across the Board blog.

A screen shot of the actual shot that started it all (and the name of her friend) can be found HERE.
And, her photos on FACEBOOK are HERE.
She says she's not just a nice pair of "boots" on a sideline and can talk sports with the best of us. We'll see. She's going to have a "Dear Cowgirl" column on SI.com coon.
She's jumped out of her clothes and into fame and fortune overnight. Meanwhile, her friend doesn't even get her name mentioned.
As for her lofty aspirations: I'll defer judgement for five years, and see if she ends up being a lawyer, an actress, a sideline reporter, or a porn star.
My life hasn't been the same since.
You may not recognize the name, but I'm sure you have seen my pictures. My life was just like any other college student's. I would wake up, go to class in my pajamas, go to the gym, listen to my parents scream about my cell phone bill, and spend study hours on Facebook.com. Then my school, Florida State, defeated our biggest rival, Miami, one fateful night in September.
The next day, I found out that there was not only video, but also pictures -- lots of them -- of my friends and I celebrating in the front row of the student section. The photos started on a message board at Florida State -- the Warchant.com Locker Room. I gave a name to put with the face. They called me "The Cowgirl." Most didn't believe it was me. I had to prove I was the real thing. A second appearance at the Citadel game did just that.
Soon my pictures spread throughout the Scout.com and Rivals.com message boards. Every board, it seemed, had its opinion of me and my burgeoning Internet celebrity status. Today, you can find a thread about my pictures on just about any college message board.
I was one of the top Internet searches on Google and the Yahoo buzz index for December and January. I was even dubbed ESPN's 2006 Hottie Sensation. In coming months, my friends and I will be featured in Maxim (March) and Playboy (May). I'm sure everyone will be pumping the Playboy shoot, but I'm more stoked about Maxim because it's an entire photo spread with an interview. I've had many other offers and while they are enticing, I am not about to leave school with a semester between me and my diploma. Some things in life are just more important.
My family has been my backbone through all of this. They support my decisions, and I respect their opinions. It's no fathers dream to see his daughter pose nude in Playboy, but every photo has been tastefully done, because the last thing I would ever want to do is disgrace my family.
I currently have more than 16,000 friend requests on Facebook and over 1,000 on Myspace. I get letters from admirers in Great Britain, Iraq, and even China. When I'm out with friends, people take pictures with me like I'm a character at a theme park. They ask for autographs as I wait in airports. Some have even gone so far as to find my home address and write to ask for signed pictures.
More complicated than friendship is dating, which I have definitely put on the backburner. I've had countless marriage proposals (all in jest I am sure) on Facebook and Myspace. How successful a relationship can you find on the Internet?
Believe me, I'm flattered. But, really, why all the fuss? I'm still a normal college girl. I wake up late for class, fight for parking spaces, and spend way too much time watching ESPN. Honestly, if you walked past me at school, you probably wouldn't look twice. I go to school with some of the most gorgeous girls you will ever see in your life. To even be placed among their ranks is an honor in itself.
With notoriety comes a price. Sometimes you find out that people you thought were your friends really aren't, and that some people want to be your friend for reasons other than getting to know you as a person, if you know what I mean. People have tried to use me for my connections or to get ahead, while tearing me down behind my back. I know who my real friends are and who will still be there if and when all this ends.
I know what you are thinking: enough with this sappy crap. This is a dude's domain, this is SI.com. Think again, buddy. I'm more than a nice pair of "boots" on a sideline.
I will go head-to-head with your knowledge of news, current events, entertainment or especially my passion: sports. I am no expert, nor do I claim to be one, but I can hang with the best of you out there. So I hope you don't mind sharing a sports bar or locker room with a female, fellas, because I got news for you: this Cowgirl is here to stay.
Do you need some relationship advice? Having a problem with a friend? Want to know what really goes through a girl's mind. Email Jenn at feedback@sioncampus.com and she'll do her best to answer your questions in her weekly "Dear Cowgirl" column which will debut soon.
