Crossroads News reports two men suspected of killing two men with Decatur addresses (in separate incidents) have been arrested.

Charles Thomas McClendon, 29, an eighth-grade teacher at Stone Mountain Middle School, was caught about to have sex with a 15-year-old student, in his pickup. [AJC]

New Street Studio Halloween rock for the country of Georgia

The title of this poster is a tad misleading, but Papuna, who is from the country of Georgia, probably didn't realize it.

In any case, a lot of good bands have been lined up. From past experience, these guys know how to throw a party! See this 6/29/2008 inDECATUR post for some images from a late June party held there -- republished in the continuation (and a short video which might help you recognize where it is).

To find this place, drive down New St. from E. College just past the pet place and you'll see two rows of buildings with a parking lot in between. It will be near the far end of that row. You can't miss it while the music is playing.

What begins as a simple visit to the local bar soon turns out to be an evening of chilling tales of the supernatural, until the final tale takes a strange and unexpected turn. It's a perfect story for an October evening of theater.

Recently we learned that one of our favorite galleries, the Boswell Gallery in Decatur was closing after 3 great years. So we got to thinking, what if we added a gallery component to our list of projects and made it a co-op to give emerging artists and artisans more opportunities for success?   

 

Would we be able to bring the very best that Atlanta has to offer in a cost effective, stylish manner that would appeal to everyone?

 

Once we decided to open the gallery, we decided to add a small outdoor market in front on Friday and Saturday nights.  The five restaurants and four boutiques in the immediate neighborhood love the idea!

 

The new Decatur Market & Gallery opened on Oct. 3 to immediate success.  The layout is smart and stylish with excellent artists and artisans showing their work in a sophisticated environment.  The outdoor market will accommodate 10 vendors each Friday and Saturday night.

 

If you haven't seen the gallery yet, stop by!  (153 Ponce de Leon Pl., Decatur 30030; 404-377-0755) It's open Tues. - Sat. 10-6, and stays open while the market is operating in front on the weekends.  Be sure to mark your calendar for the grand opening on Sat., Nov. 1st.

Grind 2.0 skateboard deck art

Last year Foundation One [on E. College in Decatur] hosted a skatedeck auction that brought some big names in contemporary, low-brow art to to show along side the best Atlanta had to offer. This year The Grind 2.0 is being held at The Rabbit Hole Gallery [on Arizona Ave.], and the big names are back. They aren't as recognizable as some of the monsters from last year (Fairey, McFarlene, Faile) but anybody that follows the scene will recognize names like Dave Kinsey, Nate Van Dyke, and Paper Monster.

Bidding has already begun online, and you can check out the work in person at Rabbit Hole this Friday, October 10th from 7-11.

Mudfire Gallery presents "Asheville in Atlanta" beginning 10/11/08

MudFire Gallery welcomes back guest curator Kyle Carpenter for its annual exhibit of functional and decorative pottery by North Carolina artists from the Asheville region. This year for "Asheville in Atlanta," Kyle will exhibit his works alongside those of Penny Waters-Clark, Ken Sedberry and Jon Keenan.

The annual "Asheville in Atlanta" show is MudFire Gallery's most anticipated event each year. Guest curator Kyle Carpenter invites a select group of artists from in and around Asheville to participate. This area is known internationally as home to a vast pool of ceramics talent including an intense concentration of the world's top studio potters. For the MudFire exhibit, the number of artists is limited so that visitors are able to enjoy a sizeable body of works by each artist, gaining a deep familiarity with each of their styles.

Johnny Clash is a Rock and Roll cover band comprised of Lenz, Inc. owner
Richard Lenz on guitar, employees Mike Killeen and Scott Sanders on
guitar and drums respectively, and honorary Lenz employee, Shawn Vinson,
on bass. Opening for Johnny Clash are Michael Killeen and the
Sweethearts and Nathan Beaver.
