After having been destroyed by fire the morning of President Obama's inauguration on 1/20/2011, demolished, and then rebuilt and refurbished, Trackside Tavern in Decatur, GA (established 1982) was back in business beginning at 1PM (on 90 minutes noticed from the Facebook page). The word spread rapidly among the loyal regulars (aka Trackside refugees) who had been waiting somewhat impatiently for 2 1/2 years. A good crowd was on the patio for the ribbon cutting, and the crowd grew throughout the day, until the place was packed (by regulars and newbies) by nightfall. The celebration went on until 3AM.
Here's a 19 1/2 minute video montage capturing (hopefully) the essence of the event:
As a clip in the video shows, the regulars are good friends, and welcome new inductees. All that is required is that you come regularly, be sociable, and don't act TOO strange [the bar is quite high]. Even those who have passed on are remembered.
Doc Al (the owner), his friend Patrick (the manager), Stacy, Steve, and the new chef and staff are all dedicated to your satisfaction. The place is open, light, and as clean as any place in Decatur. It is an adult bar, so don't bring anyone under 21. [Alternatives for family dining abound in Decatur.] Per a Decatur ordinance, smoking is allowed only outside on the patio.
