3PM UPDATE: All clear issued by City. Whew! We dodged a bullet! Gas is useful but dangerous stuff!
There are good procedures in place for avoiding digging into gas lines. Why do we hear about it happening so often?
The Decatur PD issued this at 1:22 pm. Let's hope and pray there's no explosion.
The Decatur Minute should be posting updates, and hopefully an all clear later this afternoon or evening, so these people can return to their homes, without any injuries.
2PM UPDATE: The gas leak has been shut off, but it will be several hours before residents can return to their homes.
Needless to say, if you are not in the area, you should stay well clear of it.
