Although I grew up in the Decatur First Baptist Church, first attending the old church at the corner of Trinity and Church; I haven't been back there since I moved away from Decatur in 1970.
It appears extensive modifications were made when the sanctuary was restored after the fire in the 1970s.
There's also a lot more A/V equipment, including a complete room in the back of the balcony. When I was there, it was limited to one cabinet in the back corner of the balcony.
And, the carpet used to be red, as I recall.
Perhaps someone who has been there the whole time can fill in some details. I only have what I see now and what I vaguely remember. I also have a book giving the history of the church up until the mid Sixties.
In any case, it looks good now.
It will be one of the venues for the Decatur Book Festival.
