The DHNA met at the Church in Decatur Heights on Sycamore Drive at 7pm Tuesday, 6/23/2009.
The most controversial topic was the house at 444 Sycamore Drive, which is being used as a respite house for people with mental issues. inDECATUR has been sitting on this for about nine or ten months, after mentioning it to the DHNA staff and being assured they were working on it. Now that it's out in the open, a detailed post on it will be added, perhaps later today.
Another big subject was traffic calming, something which was discussed in meetings over a year ago. Annie and others met with DeKalb Commissioner Radar. If a majority of residents sigan a pettion, the County will undertake a traffic calming survey. One caveat is DeKalb Co. would charge all residents a $25 annual fee for maintenance. Decatur commissioner Fred Boykin said he'd never heard of the county charging city residents. He also noted what we'd been told some time ago -- that Sycamore Drive was one of the prime streets selected for traffic calming. He suggested contacting Hugh Saxon.
The increased fequency of crime in the NW quadrant was discussed. The DPD is supposed to be doing more frequent patrols.
The Decatur Heights [decaturheights.com] blog will also be updated.
