Glenlake Park bid meeting Tuesday, 10/7/08

The City of Decatur will receive sealed bids for the Glenlake Park Bathhouse and Pool Improvements, 1121 Church Street, Decatur GA 30030, until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2008, in the City Commission Room at Decatur City Hall, 509 North McDonough Street, Decatur, Georgia, 30030, at which time and place all bids will be publicly opened and read aloud.

This work includes full demolition of the existing bathhouse and selective demolition of the associated pool deck, fencing and immediate existing site improvements. A new bathhouse is to be constructed in association with other improvements including pool deck expansion, granite clad walls, fabric shade structures and new pool area fencing.

A mandatory pre-bid conference is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at the City Commission Room, above address. A site visit will occur after the meeting for those interested. Parties responding to this Request for Bids must attend this briefing session in order for their submittal to be considered. Any questions and/or misunderstandings that may arise from this proposal should be submitted, in writing, and regarding bids should be directed to Hugh Saxon, Deputy City Manager, at (678) 553-6507 or (678) 553-6597 (fax) no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2008.

Now wait a minute... I thought that they were demolishing the whole pool and moving it over to somewhere near the current baseball field and then making it some sort of 3' glorified wading pool so no one would have to actually swim - after all swimming is dangerous (sarcasm intended). I also thought that they were getting rid of the heavily used Glenlake Tennis Center.

Clearly I am quite clueless and out of the loop. Did the City finally come to its senses and abandon that plan?

I don't recall a plan to move the pool.
