This ancient blogger can remember when the rec center consisted of an old house about where the parking lot for Decatur Library is now, as he vaguely recalls. (It might have been on the Decatur Rec Center property.) He'd give an impacted molar for an image of it. He took ballroom dancing lessons (which he absolutely hated!) there, with the music supplied from an old-fashioned Whirlitzer juke box.
The Rec Center was quite an improvement, and provided a better place for DHS basketball games and dances.
Now, the building has been allowed to fall into disrepair, and a major expenditure is necessary to bring it back to good condition.

Oooooooh! Maybe the City will do as good of a job with that as they did with the wonderful and "oh so useful" McKoy Park Pool! What a joke!
And... from what I hear, the boondoggle of the Glenlake Park renovation will be equally "interesting."
Lesson learned... no more bonds for City of Decatur.

What's wrong with McKoy Park pool? I've heard nothing but great things about it and plan to take my kids there Saturday.

It's fine so long as your kids are under five and so long as there are fewer than 15 other kids there. It was just a missed opportunity. Please do go, you will see what I mean.

I disagree. Sire. the pool is pretty small, and it's designed more to cater to little kids. But the kids there seem to love it (many of them are over 5), they're doing fine even if it's crowded, and kids are one of the main pool constituencies.
The pool does have some lanes for laps. And if you want a bigger and more traditional pool, head over to Glenn Lake pool. I think it's nice that Decatur tried to do something a little different at McCoy.

I was able to see the Glenlake park renovation from the cemetery, and frankly, it seems like a waste.
They've completely bulldozed the stone stands by the baseball field, and gotten rid of all the fencing. I assume they're going to replace the stone stands with metal ones, which will, of course, break down and need repair on a regular basis.
They've also cleared a large amount of the vegetation by the stream; I suppose they're trying to stop erosion.
What I thought was the most unnecessary is how they've torn up the path between Glenwood neighborhood and the park completely. The path seemed perfectly fine to me. Seems unnecessary.
