Do you know who owns this cat?

Annie, a co-chair of the Decatur Heights Neighborhood Association (DHNA), rescued this cat near the Sycamore/Fairview intersection in Decatur.  D has posted flyers all around.

She is improving under the care of Dr. Cynthia Fordyce of the Church St. Animal Hospital.

What she needs most is to be reunited with her owner(s).

 
 

This illustrates the importance of collars with tags. Implants would also be good.

UPDATE: Miss Kitty will be released Wednesday and placed with someone Annie knows on Thursday, unless the owner contacts her beforehand.

Anybody seen or heard a coyote?

A coyote has been caught in Oakhurst, so we probably have them here in Decatur Heights as well.

If you're not out in the middle of the night, you've probably not seen one, but you might have heard one.

Warn your kids to stay away from wild animals

Reports of rabid wild animals are showing up around the state.

We have more wild animals in Decatur Heights than you might think. We still have lots of trees, we're near Glenn Creek, and we have enticing things like garbage cans.

Beyond the numerous stray cats; sqawking squirrels, and roving rats and mice; there are slow-moving animals which kids can easily approach and touch, like opossums. (Saw one on the fence, snarling at me, one night recently.)

Warn your kids not to attempt to touch any wild animals.

This writer speaks from personal experience. While cleaning up the DHS stadium during PE one day, he picked up a mouse by its tail, got bit, and was ordered to go get rabies shots. Kids do dumb things.

[I've personally seen the dramatic transformation in physical appearance and demeanor in a number of them, after medical help (when needed), proper nutrition and shelter, and a lot of TLC.]
