Traffic Calming Petitions- The target for presenting the petitions is the April 4th Commission Meeting. This allows for additional participation, and it gives neighbors the opportunity to fill out a short survey on the “No Right Turn” petition at the Potluck. (Neighbors will also be able to view the map with participating households highlighted.) March re-canvassing efforts are focused on: Sycamore Ridge, Sycamore Station, Sycamore Court, Glenn Square, and the apartment complexes on Hillcrest Ave. & Springdale St. A Big Thank You to all who have already signed!
Neighbors are welcome to set up a signing visit: deanneindecaturheights@yahoo.com.
New Caution Signs for Suburban Nursery School!- Big Props to David Junger, Asst City Manager for Public Works, for installing yellow & black “Caution: Children/Joggers/Bicyclists/Pedestrians” signs! The signs should be a big help in raising drivers' awareness as they approach the school! Also, Suburban Nursery School recently added a designated driveway zone that folks must reach before exiting their vehicle. Its purpose is to prevent unoccupied cars from causing back-up that blocks the sidewalk & traffic flow. Staff will continue to discourage across-the-street parking as a safety precaution.
Neighborhood Watch / Alert /FYIs
Decatur Heights Neighborhood Watch update- Many neighbors have signed to show their support for a neighborhood-wide Watch. A Neighborhood Watch campaign should help us to successfully reach the 90% enrollment required. Efforts will resume when there's a DH Watch committee in place. (Interested in serving as a block captain? Please sign up at the Potluck!)
Crimes- Thefts from vehicles are an ongoing issue throughout our neighborhood. Usually it involves an unlocked vehicle; however, in February, two cars had windows smashed (on Ridgeland Ave & nearby Springdale St.).There was also another vehicle stolen (quickly recovered) from Sycamore Ridge in February. Lock up those vehicles and remove your valuables!
Solicitors- Last week the AT&T U-verse door-to-door folks caused a stir in our neighborhood and elsewhere in Decatur. The City requires that door-to-door salespeople carry an approved solicitation permit issued by the Police Dept. (Some organizations are exempt, and religious ministry differs from solicitation.) It's best not to give detailed information to anyone before checking their credentials. Hours allowed are from 9am-8pm.
Lost Pets- Please regularly check crawlspaces, sheds, and garages for pets seeking lodging. Catsespecially don't agree that they're lost until they say they're lost! (A critter hunting hideout? MEOW!)
Reminder: PJ (aka Fluffy Pants), a skittish fluffy gray & white cat-AND- Bonnie, a friendly gray&black tabby cat still need our help to find their way home. Their info & photos are on Discussions:http://groups.google.com/group/decatur-heights-neighbors
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the March 20th Potluck!
