Some neighbors take their case to the local news

Some of our neighbors are pushing hard for something to be done about 904 Sycamore Dr, which suffered fire damage. (The family relocated to another house in the neighborhood.) This came up in the last Commission meeting.  Now it has appeared on Ch. 2 News.

The owner of the property is in compliance by keeping the house boarded up and secure. The exception is the unlocked shed in the back, which is easily corrected.

Where: Community Room of The Church at Decatur Heights (735 Sycamore Drive)

2011's going to be an exciting year for us, so let's get ourselves organized! In 2010 we launched efforts to expand communications, build bonds between neighbors, & improve the safety & walkability of our neighborhood. To continue these efforts & make the most of our neighborhood's potential, we'll need an officially designated neighbors group. At this meeting we'll resolve the status of the Decatur Heights Neighborhood Association (DHNA). We'll also get updates on the Communications & Petitions/Watch projects and discuss ideas for our neighborhood. All interested neighbors are encouraged to participate!

Neighbors request demolition on house at 904 Sycamore Drive

In last night's Commission meeting, two neighbors (one on Sycamore Dr and one on Forkner) made a case for the demolition of the house at 904 Sycamore Drive, at the NW corner of Sycamore and Falkner. This is the house which caught on fire.

They say it's not being maintained, the storage shed is unlocked, and people have been seen wandering on the property. They note it is close to a school bus pickup.

They were advised it's a complicated at extended legal process.  The City did assure them it would do all it could short of that.
