Here's what the church signs say now:

Vandalism of sign at Church at Decatur Heights

A neighbor across the street from the Church noticed this morning the letters had been changed to make obscene statements.

Closer observation revealed the plexiglas had been cracked from top to bottom on the north side.

This was reported to the Decatur police. They will step up monitoring.

The letters had been changed before.

This is just ugly. My guess: Kids with too much spare time on their hands. 

Street improvements to be made in front of the Church this fall

The modifications will provide a clear entry and exit point and a handicapped ramp. Trees will be planted across the rest of the open space. This should provide a safer parking area for the Church.

The city has already signed the contract for this work. It's scheduled for the fall.

 

Outdoor fire pit?

I'd like to see an outdoor fire pit in the center of the story telling circle in the Garden Park.

This could also be used (with a wire mesh) for grilling hotdogs and hamburgers.

I have many warm (no pun intended) memories of sitting around fires telling ghost stories and such in the Boy Scouts. Those were happy, simple times.

Yes, fire can be dangerous if not properly handled. but this would not be under the tree limbs (if moved slightly more toward Lockwood).

A metal plate could be placed over the pit for other purposes.

Just a thought.

Drastic renovation on Forkner

There are renovations, and there are DRASTIC renovations.

 

New house going up fast

Earlier this week (or was it last week), they put in the forms and poured the concrete foundation. This week they framed the first floor. I'm guessing there will be a second floor.

 

The signs are up

Deanne and her three nine-year-old nieces did a nice job. 

They are post at Hillcrest & Sycamore, Pinehurst and Winn, Bridlewood & Sycamore, Forkner & Glendale, and Forkner & Sycamore.

Hopefully, nobody will take any of them this time (mistaking them for works of art, apparently).

 
 

Please look for this cat

Nutmeggy disappeared several days ago in Decatur Heights (along Sycamore Drive), and her keepers are increasingly concerned about her. Please look in crawl spaces and storage sheds, where she may be hiding.

 

Good neighbors make good neighborhoods

A single good neighbor might not double the value of your house, but a neighborhood known for cooperative neighbors who are friendly when you pass on the sidewalk and look out for each other (resulting in lower crime rates) will definitely have higher average home values.

Decatur Heights has some of the lowest crime rates in the city.
