This is the five-page main letter of the appeal filed on 2/11/2010 by Dillard & Galloway on behalf of Soren and Grace Ann.  (Click on the thumbnails at the top to see each page.) There are also many pages of attachments, which might be added later.

A public hearing will be held on 3/8 at City Hall.

This sign was posted yesterday. The wording is rather interesting.

Kick it to the curb day is 6/5/2010

Catherine at The Decatur Minute notes the 2010 schedule for what is now called "Trash Amesty Day" has been established and is available for the entire city in pdf format at the city website.

Unfortunately, that day is over three months away for our neighborhood. But, now is a good time to mark it on your calendar.

 
 

Apparently personal care homes must have sprinkler systems

 Friday, WSB reported Clayton County shut down an unlicensed personal care home because it does not have sprinklers. The owners must install them, and get a license, if they want to continue to have guests.

Landy Merkison of the Clayton County Fire Department said "There are certain code upgrades you need to do when you house residents of this nature so like fire sprinklers need to be in the home, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers."

Now, the operation at 444 Sycamore has been said to be "similar to a personal care home." So, has the Decatur Fire Department inspected it for compliance? Or, can it skate because it is only "similar?"

Commissioners approve outside lawyer for 444 Sycamore

In the Tuesday meeting, the Comissioners approved a request to hire an outside attorney to review the 444 Sycamore situation

Decision on extending no parking zone on Sycamore Drive postponed

An item on the agenda for Tuesday's Commissioners meeting contained a recommendation by the City Engineer that the no parking zone on the east side of Sycamore Drive north of Ponce be extended 55 ft around the curve.  

No parking here has to be approved by the Commissioners because the street is 41 feet wide here. The City Manager can designate no parking on one side of a street only when the street width is 30 feet or less.

The site distance is limited by the Crepe Myrtles in the grass strip. Northbound cars tend to cross the center line when cars are parked in this area.

The item was postponed until the next (3/1) meeting based on additional information which had been submitted after the agenda was published. If you have an opinion on this, you should speak at that meeting.

The resident at 211 Sycamore did speak, saying he felt the 55 foot extension was too far, and would require the relocation of his mail box.

 

No parking should also be extended around the Grove/Sycamore intersection, where traffic will also veer across the center line depending on how cars are parked. Anyone care to file a complaint about that?

I'm working to find and remove whatever trapped them.
