Those of us over 50 were taught what was probably a simplistic story of the original Thanksgiving. Revisionist history would have us believe all sorts of crazy things. Paul Krugman wrote some BS on this in the NY Slimes yesterday.
The TRUE story can be found in a history written by the governor of the colony, which can be read here. Since it's long winded and written in Old English, which is painful to read, I know few reading this are going to get very far into it, if they even start.
So, here's a telling of the key learning by Jerry Bowyer. He's an economic expert. His site is Bowyer Briefing. He was interviewed by Rusty Humphries on WGST 640AM Atlanta yesterday afternoon. The documented, indesputable TRUTH is early attempts at socialism failed. When the colony switched over to capitalism, it thrived, and shared its bounty with the Native Americans.

For those lucky enough to not have previously heard of Cynthia McKinney, she once represented part of DeKalb County, Georgia (east of Fulton County, where downtown Atlanta is) in the US Congress. Since she was instrumental in getting Federal pork for her constituents, some of them (with the help of her father, also in politics) honored her by renaming a portion of Memorial Highway (where it crosses the I-285 Perimeter) for her. [There hasn't been a wooded section in decades, but allow for a little "poetic license" for effect.] Even though she abandoned her people and moved to California some years ago, efforts to un-name the segment (and remove the large signs) have, so far, been unsuccessful. Many across the Nation feel she's right down there with Jane Fonda in denigrading her country on the international stage. Certain of our country's enemies consider her a "useful idiot."
If you don't listen to the RH show, and are wondering about the reference to beef jerky, Rusty sells his own brand of the it on the side.
Occupy Atlanta was peacefully evicted from Woodruff Park earlier this week, but says it will reappear elsewhere in metro Atlanta tonight.
Tim Franzen says he is an "occupier" and not the leader. He is on the Media Committee and serves as the spokesman for the group. Rusty Humphries of 640AM WGST in Atlanta played a pre-recorded 18 minute interview with him on Thursday, 10/27/2011. Rusty chose a softball approach, mostly just letting him talk.

Actor John Ratzenberger (best known for the role of Cliff Claven in "Cheers" but who also has assumed a number of other roles) was interviewed by Rusty Humphries on 640AM WGST in Atlanta on Monday, 10/24/2011.

By 2020, we'll have 10 million vacancies in jobs requiring skilled labor. This is why vocational programs such as the one recently started at Decatur High are so important. Strangely, DHS had a similar program back in the 70s.

If you prefer a venue where curse words are welcome and curtain hangers are not, the Trackside Tavern (on E. College, across the tracks from the old Depot) is your place in Decatur. While some o the customers may act immature, nobody under 21 is allowed in anytime (which makes me wonder why the urinal is mounted so low -- either they're hoping for height challenged adult customers, laws require it, or one other reason I'll not type). Since it's been rebuilt, it's lost its dive image, but the late night and early morning crowd is working hard to recreate it (if somebody would just stop painting over the gross graffiti on the restroom walls!).
Sunday night and early Monday (Halloween) morning, the Track (as we regulars call it) will be throwing a party and costume contest. Awards (to be determined, but likely involving house cash and other things) will be announced at 1AM. The party will go on until 3AM.
Even if you've never been in the old or new Track, and regardless of your gender, sexual preference, race, religion, sports team, or political persuasion; your welcome to join us and you will be warmly received (as long as your behavior stays somewhere within tolerable limits).
