Humans hesitant to get implanted RFID chips

Only 222 medical patients in total have opted to get RFID chips from VeriChip implanted as of the end of 2006, according to documents filed by the company with the Securities and Exchange Commission as part of its initial public offering. It's a modest number, the company says, and revenue for these systems is far below projections.

The idea is to put medical information into the chip so that paramedics and others could obtain information about medical allergies and other issues in a person if they are unconscious and they lost their medic alert bracelets.

But, their effect on servicemen and locals who are around where they are stored and used remains inconclusive.

A RAND review of the literature found no correlation.

One can ride a bike TOO MUCH

CNN reports:

A 57 year-old man who took up bicycling at age 39 after bypass surgery gave him a second chance at life died of a heart attack the day after completing a 2,400-mile, cross-country trip.

The article doesn't say how many miles the group was riding each day, but it was probably 50 or more -- a bit much for a 57-yr-old heart patient -- especially every day for many days. Sounds like he was getting some indications he was overdoing it during the ride. But real men never want to drop out of anything.

ACE (never a heart patient - at least NOT YET) rode his new bike for 2 hours (about 20-25 miles -- haven't installed a bike computer yet) last evening, reaching a peak heart rate of 153 (just slightly over his recommended upper limit) and burning 1115 calories (per his POLAR watch).It gets a little easier each time as I begin to get back in shape.
