Shooting for Charity
The inaugural Charity Shoot to benefit the Nashville Area American Cancer Society was a big success. Ronnie and Pat Barrett were honorary chairs for the event that attracted over 100 competitive shooters and scores of spectators to the Stones River Hunter Education Center and the Tennessee Clay Target Complex for a combination of handgun and shotgun competition.
Business leaders, Country Music personalities and public officials shared their time and shooting talents for the cause. Over $3,000 was raised from those shooting the Barrett .416 Rifle and willing to donate $20 per shot to the ACS. Overall, approximately $60,000 was raised on behalf of the area chapter of ACS and its many support services.

An interesting highlight of the day-long event was a live auction which included highly-competitive bidding to get a personal tour of the Barrett Firearms plant in Murfreesboro, shoot the Barrett .50-caliber rifle with company President Ronnie Barrett, and to enjoy a delightful dinner in the home of Ronnie and Pat.
After a time of fierce, rapid-fire bidding, the auctioneer announced that two persons were deadlocked at $7,600 each on the bid. Ronnie responded by saying, “We want everyone to be a winner in supporting the Cancer Society. So, Pat and I will have a separate dinner in our home for each respective top bidder including the Barrett plant tour and getting to shoot the .50-caliber rifle.”
