Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy (D-R.I.) denied through his office Thursday that he had been drinking before he crashed a car into a Capitol Hill security barricade at 2:45 a.
His father, Ted Kennedy, was one year older in 1969 when he drove off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island, Mass., adjacent to Martha's Vineyard. Kennedy swam to safety; a female passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, died.
In 2000, his mother Joan Kennedy was arrested for a DUI.
"Patches" has been involved in two other minor incidents in RI recently, as noted by Drudge and ReihlWorldView.
Michelle Milkin is relieved to learn he was incapacitated not by alcohol, but rather by prescription drugs, by his own latest admission. Had he hit another car instead of a barrier, and severely injured another motorist, I'm sure that person would be comforted by this distinction.
A hostess at a local bar is saying she saw him drinking "a little bit" in the hours beforehand.
I thought only low lifes were out driving around at 3AM (with the exception of those who work at night, of course).
You have to wonder how the DC police would treat you or I (or Cynthia McKinney) under similar circumstances.
