Answer to this morning's firearms question
Still wondering what firearm the Secret Service agent/officer was brandishing in the earlier A-C-E post?
You'll find the answer in the continuation.
[LINK] History of the UZI
"The UZI probably reached its height of acceptance in the U.S. during the attempted assassination of President Reagan in 1981. Secret Service agents used them in this incident to subdue the would-be assassin, John Hinckley Jr."
The exact same photo used in the earlier A-C-E post is shown (except in B&W).
Technically, the UZI was not used in subduing Hinckley. (That was done by wrestling him to the ground.) It was used to guard against possible additional gunmen.
See photos of full-size UZIs.
Thank goodness Henckley didn't have an UZI. He did enough damage with a little .22, firing off 6 shots in 1.7 seconds, at a range of around 12 feet, putting down three men. He'd obviously practiced.
Apparently, the agent got the UZI out of the case seen on the street in the photo, as this notes.
