South Korea to use armed robots on DMZ by 2011

The Korea Times reports:

The Defense Ministry said Friday that it will introduce a robot surveillance system for the defense of frontline areas along the inter-Korean border by 2011.

The six-year project was initiated last October to strengthen surveillance along the heavily fortified border with North Korea, ministry spokesman Shin Hyun-don told reporters.

That old B&W Sci Fi show (forgot the name) with armed robots on tracks between walls was just a half century ahead of reality.
