Why have a gold revolver?
Gold is not the best material for firearms, beyond decoration. Other materials are stronger, lighter, and cheaper (although gold plating sometimes helps lesser metals). But it does look good, doesn't it?

If I could afford it, and already had every functional thing I (and my loved ones and friends) needed and wanted, had already generously contributed to worthy causes and right-thinking politicians and parties, had more money invested than I could ever realize the profits from, and STILL had disposable income; I'd probably collect and show ornate firearms.
Until then, my focus will be on functional firearms I can actually enjoy firing, and admire ornate ones owned by others.
The old joke in the continuation illustrates a possible practical use:
An old Italian Mafia Don was dying. He called his oldest grandson to his bedside.
"Grandason, I wanna you lisina me. I wanna you to taka my chroma-plated, golda-engraved .38 revolver so you will always remember me."
The young man holds his old grandfather's hand and pats it.
"But Pappa, I really don't like guns, and I would not want to offend you. But how about leaving me your 24 karat gold Rolex watch instead?"
The grandfather pulls his hand away.
"You lisina me, soma day you gonna be runna da business, you gonna have a beautiful wifea, you gonna hava lotsa money, a biga gorgeousa homea and maybe a couple bambinos... Thena soma day you goina coma homea, and maybe a you finda you wifea in bed with another manna..."
"Whata you gonna do then? Huh? Pointa to youa watch and say... TIME'SA UP!"
