Secret talks with insurgents?

A Time magazine article says informal talks are ongoing.

Supposedly, the the MNF is telling more moderate elements of the insurgency (not al Qaeda) what it's willing to give to have the terrorist attacks stop (at least the ones they can influence).

It will be interesting to see if there's any truth to this, and (if so) what comes from it. "Face" is a big deal in the Middle East, and these guys need a way to "save face." If helping them do that, without jeopardizing much, can get our troops home sooner, why not?

If it's true, it would seem to indicate the insurgents have given up on driving the US out, and is willing to settle for what little it can salvage.  This could lead to an early end to the terrorism.
