Large image of new FN SCAR-L

In a comment, "Gab" has linked to a very large image (which you can enlarge even more - actual image is about 4X screen size) of the new FN SCAR-L 5.56mm assault rifle, recently adopted by SOCOM.

Gab thinks the front sight and pistol grip are from the M249.

Thanks for sharing what you're finding with us, Gab. You scooped Defense Review on this. DC was travelling and has just (last night) posted the little image posted here some days ago.

My questions:

Did SOCOM obtain some kind of exclusive deal with FN, so it can have an "elite" rifle BIG GREEN grunts can't have?  (The FN announcement posted earlier says FN will produce this ONLY for SOCOM.) Would the DoD allow this?

Will BIG GREEN run comparative tests between the SCAR-L and the XM8?
