MEMRI TV translates Arab TV clips

0330Z THU 01JUL04. MEMRI TV.org

The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) provides TV clips with closed captioned English translation.

Now we can see, first hand, some of what the Arabs are seeing on their TVs.

Be aware MEMRI's Media Center is in Jerusalem, so it might exercise some bias in the selection of clips, although it claims to be independent.

Thanks to Jen at A Collection of Thoughts for providing the link. I'd heard Neal Boortz mention this yesterday, but couldn't find it (not knowing the exact spelling).

Hillary: We're going to be taking [tax cuts] from you

WED 30JUN04. Neal Boortz News.

If the rumors Matt Drudge reports are true, Hillary Clinton will be the VP candidate on the Kerry ticket.

If so, she got off to a bad start (as far as conservatives are concerned) on Tuesday by announcing (to wealthy attendees of a fund-raiser in San Francisco) that the Dems, once back in power, would be taking away their tax cuts "for the common good."

"Many of you are well enough off that ... the tax cuts may have helped you. We're saying that for America to get back on track, we're probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."

In the extension, pls. find Neal Boortz' take on her comments.

Incidentally, Neal believes a Kerry/Clinton ticket will be a winner.

What's a GA chicken plant have to do with al-Qaida?

1015Z WED 30JUN04. Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Documents in the nation's largest investigation into the financing of terrorism allege that more than $12 million went from a foundation connected to a Gainesville chicken plant [Gainesville is about 50 miles NE of Atlanta - an 45 min. drive up I-85 and I-985] to a secret bank account held by a top financial supporter of Osama bin Laden.

In the documents, which were unsealed June 21, the government says $12.6 million went to a bank account held by Sheik Sulaiman A. Al Rajhi in the Channel Islands, known for secretive banking laws. Al Rajhi is allegedly a member of a group of early bin Laden supporters called the "Golden Chain" in seized al-Qaida papers, according to government documents.

Radical Islamic terrorism, and the support for it, seems to be all around us, in places we never expected, despite the denials. ("Nobody here but us chickens."). But, what are we to do? It wouldn't be logical to outlaw chickens, just because they are misused for bad purposes, would it? Chickens don't kill people. People killing chickens [allegedly] support people who kill people.

Order bumper sticker here, but don't watch the video. You don't want to know.

Iraq security problems slow rebuilding

WED 30JUN04. NY Times.

More than a year into an aid effort that American officials likened to the Marshall Plan, occupation authorities acknowledge that fewer than 140 of 2,300 promised construction projects are under way. Only three months after L. Paul Bremer III, the American administrator who departed Monday, pledged that 50,000 Iraqis would find jobs at construction sites before the formal transfer of sovereignty, fewer than 20,000 local workers are employed.

US military lowers profile in Iraq

1000Z WED 30JUN04. Christian Science Monitor.

Top US commanders have acted immediately to minimize the visibility of their forces. In a very public statement that Iraqis are now in charge, they have ordered US Army convoys as well as low-flying helicopters to move at night whenever possible. And symbolically, in a break with the occupation, the military "coalition" became "multinational forces" upon the June 28 transfer of power.

Iraq, welcome to your FREE country

MON 28JUN04.

Would you pay to see a F*cYouMentary on M. Moore?

TUES 29JUN04. Fox News.

Fox News joins the chorus of critics who are pointing out the many factual errors in MM's F 9/11 movie.

Not to mention the fact he selects what scences he'll include.

So, let's call it what it really is: A F*cYouMentary, with Bush as the target. MM could make Mother Teresa look bad.

Sorry for my implied "French," but ScrewYouMentary is not as close to documentary and seems too watered down for how I feel about this affront to journalism.

Yet, Americans flock to theatres to see it, and many who don't read anything else take it as fact, like they did the equally inaccurate B for C movie.

So, I ask you this: Assuming I could mimic MM's admitted brilliance in distorting the truth in an entertaining style, and did a F*cYouMentary on Michael Moore; would you pay the cost of several gallons of gas to go see it, making ACE rich?

If so, WHAT A COUNTRY!

MM would have great in the "squeal like a pig" scene in Deliverance

Saddam uranium hunt: Another "lie" found to be true

SUN 27JUN04. Rome. Financial Times. Mark Huband.

Illicit sales of uranium from Niger were being negotiated with five states including Iraq at least three years before the US-led invasion, senior European intelligence officials have told the Financial Times.

Intelligence officers learned between 1999 and 2001 that uranium smugglers planned to sell illicitly mined Nigerien uranium ore, or refined ore called yellow cake, to Iran, Libya, China, North Korea and Iraq.

One of the other countries seeking uranium at that time, Libya, was granted renewed diplomatic relations (less than full diplomatic ties) with the US just yesterday, based on Muammar al-Qaddafi's promise last December to dismantle his chemical, biological and nuclear weapons programs, and the opening of his country to inspections. It's not just a coincidence that this occurred after GWB took a tough approach to the WoT, after BC treated it with kid gloves. The world is becoming a safer place.

Hat tip to Alpha Patriot.

Green Party snubs Nader

SUN 27JUN04. FoxNews.

The Green Party nominated Texas attorney David Cobb as its candidate for president Saturday, rejecting Ralph Nader's (search) efforts to secure the party's formal endorsement and likely access to the ballot in key states like Wisconsin and California.

Meanwhile, in Oregon, it appears the petition drive to get Nader on the ballot fell just 50 signatures short.

IF YOU DON'T VOTE BUSH, VOTE NADER
